Hi,
I suppose i'm fairly new to plant care, so bare with me. I got a pot of three small "bryophyllum Houghton's Hybrids" almost a year ago. They are now in three separate plastic pots (will change to clay soon). They are having two problems: 1. they seem to have grown quite tall, but only have leaves on the top part, 2. and in doing so they fall over from the weight. i have them propped up against a screen window. i heard that having a fan blow them upright will help them grow straight, but that still doesn't tell me why they shot up so quick and dropped all the bottom leaves. if you can answer any part of this long winded question please do so, it would help me and my plants. Thanks!

Hi there :-)
It appears that your plants have etoliated:

I too have cut a few of my plants the past weeks and put them into soil.
It usually works pretty well. Just make sure you let the cutting "dry" a few days and don't put it into too wet soil.
Cheers,
Captain. |

I've cut plants with stem diameters up to 1 cm and replanted them in this manner; always had good luck with this technique.
In fact, even when my plants don't etoliate, I cut the tops out and replant them to keep them short and manageable.
